Granting Long term lease of a land to the Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation for the Cashew Seed Garden

- A land block in extent of 86.093 hectares (212 acres 02 roods 23.95 perches) located in the Ralmaduwa Grama Niladhari Division, Wanathavilluwa where the Agricultural Research Unit‑ Eluwankulama was maintained, has been transferred to the Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation in July 1998 for development and use. Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation is using the said land for Cashew cultivation. The Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation has planned to maintain a collection of Cashew varieties available in different areas of Sri Lanka through the Plant Breeding Centre located in the said land, in association with the Faculty of Agriculture of Wayamba University. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Lands, to transfer the said land to the Sri Lanka Cashew Corporation on long term lease basis for a period of 50 years, to implement the said project which is of tremendous economic and social significance, was approved by the Cabinet.
