Restructuring of the Prisons Intelligence Unit

- The need to restructure the existing prison intelligence unit so as to perform security duties, protection of special prisoners/suspects, riot control and security duties, without being limited to the functions of the said unit has been identified. Accordingly the proposal made by the Minister of Justice to restructure the existing Prison Intelligence Unit as the "Sri Lanka Prison Emergency Action Tactical Force" (SPEAT FORCE) enabling to assign identified specific duties in addition to the duties performed by ordinary prison officers, was approved by the Cabinet.
