Streamlining Government Intervention in the Organic Fertilizer Production and Distribution Sectors

- The need of directing Sri Lanka's agriculture to use organic fertilizer has been emphasized by the Government Policy Statement ''Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour''. In order to monitor the strategic plan of implementing this policy, it has been identified the need of having a Government institute with modern technology and research facilities, capable of carrying out production, marketing, research and development of organic fertilizers in line with international standards for direction of strategical arrangements to implement the said policy. Accordingly the proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture for the conversion of Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company Ltd. into an institution for production, formulation and distribution of organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer of higher generations and undertaking research and development in the relevant field, was approved by the Cabinet.
