Establishment of Katunayaka Industrial Zone
- Nearly 150 investors have made requests to the Ministry of Industries to provide them with opportunities to initiate industries in the Western Province and it has been found that approximately 11,500 job opportunities could be generated under an investment of around Rs. 30,000 million by providing necessary facilities for the same. At present there are 08 industrial zones located in the Western Province and they are operating with their full capacity. Therefore, it has been found necessary to establish an industrial zone in the Western Province. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Industries to establish the Katunayaka Industrial Zone at a land block of 100 acres of State owned land called Kaludiyawala Watta, belonging to Katana Divisional Secretariat Division to provide necessary facilities to commence industries such as rubber, plastics, medicines and allied products, electrical and electronic appliances, packaging, value added agricultural products and recycling industries by giving priority to garments and associated products, was approved by the Cabinet.
