Project for the establishment of a Trade Centre on the State land adjoining the Rajarata University, Mihinthale

- Through the “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour”, the Policy Statement of the Government, medium term plans are being formulated for increasing the number of students who have sat the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination and gained entrance to universities and in this backdrop, the number of students gaining admission to the universities will increase. This will consequently escalate the expenditure incurred on the financial facilities provided by the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund. Attention has been paid to invest funds of the said Scholarship Fund in other investment avenues with the objective of developing the Fund, generating income through long term stable stream of revenue and achieving direct development through investments. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Trade, to appoint a Committee representing the other relevant Ministries and institutions to implement a project for the establishment of a Trade Center on a plot of State land of 300 acres adjoining the Rajarata University, Mihinthale in the Anuradhapura District and to formulate an integrated plan on the implementation of the said project, was approved by the Cabinet.
