Humanitarian Demining Programme with Demining Organizations

- The Humanitarian Demining Programme has been in operation since 2002 and at present, 02 foreign NGOs and two local NGOs are involved in this process. In addition, Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian Demining Unit is also in these operations. The demining organizations are supervised and guided by the National Mine Action Centre. 197.66 sq km has been cleared so far and 15.39 km remains to be cleared. For this purpose, the National Mine Action Centre enters into MoUs annually with the local and foreign NGOs and accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Urban Development and Housing to sign the relevant MoUs up to 2023, was approved by the Cabinet.
