Enforcement of Trade Remedies Laws

- The Anti- Dumping and Countervailing Duties Act No. 2 of 2018 and the Safeguard Measures Act, No. 3 of 2018 have been enforced to act against the unfair trade practices and importation of goods in large scale that harm local industries. The effective dates of the said Acts should be published by Gazette Notifications by the Minister in charge of the subject and accordingly, the relevant gazette notification has been issued informing that the said Acts are effective from 19th October 2020. Accordingly, the Cabinet considered the information furnished by the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Industries that the Director General of Commerce is eligible to act as the authorized officer for taking necessary measures to avoid any unfavourable circumstances caused to the local industries under the said two Acts.
