Providing a Protective Overall Kit for the students who undergo vocational training in the workshops
- A considerable amount of provisions have been allocated by the budget 2021 for expanding the vocational education field by increasing the number of students annually enrolled from 100,000 to 200,000 giving priority to the sectors with a blooming market demand. Already 09 institutions are being operated for the provision of training related to the workshops and construction sites implemented under the State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation at present. Approximately 30,000 apprentices are undergoing the training at present under the purview of these institutions and the said amount is expected to be increased up to a 40,000 with the enrolment for the year 2021. It has been planned to provide an overall kit for each trainee so that their security during the training is ensured as well as to engage in the relevant training as a modern vocational craftsman better than a traditional worker. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Education to provide a protective overall kit to those students enrolled in the vocational education institutes and undergo trainings in the workshops from the month of January 2021 and the said overall kit to be manufactured and ordered from “Ranaviru Apparels Institute” of the Sri Lanka Army, was approved by the Cabinet.
