Use of environmentally-friendly materials to cover the roofs of Schools and Pre-Schools in place of Asbestos roofing sheets

- It has been identified through the studies of the World Health Organization (WHO)that all types of asbestos cause various diseases such as lung cancer and laryngeal cancer at present. Therefore, the use of environmentally-friendlysubstitutes for roofs in buildings of schools and Pre-Schools instead of asbestos enables to prevent school and Pre-School children being exposed to asbestos and it would be an important step that could be taken for the safety of their health. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Environment to use locally manufactured roofing tiles and other environmentally-friendly substitutes forroofs in schools and Pre-Schools to be built in future instead of asbestosroofing sheets considering adverse effects that could be caused by asbestos to the future generation, was approved by the Cabinet.
