Establishment of a Dedicated Pharmaceutical Zone at Arabokka Estate, Hambantota
- The Presidential Task Force for Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation has identified the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry as one of the potential industries that could attract foreign direct investments as well as earn foreign exchange. Therefore, it has been planned to establish a special pharmaceutical manufacturing zone with modern facilities within an area in extent of 400 acres of the Arabokka estate in Hambantota enabling to attract the world renowned pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. It is expected to declare the said project as a Strategic Development Project and grant concessions and incentives for the investors who invest in the said pharmaceutical manufacturing zone. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Health for the establishment of 20 pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in 200 acres as phase I of this Project and another 20 pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in 200 more acres as its phase II and to furnish necessary infrastructure facilities by the Board of Investments of Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
