Streamlining the Fertilizer Production and Distribution System in Sri Lanka

- Production, supply and application of fertilizer should be scientifically handled in order to ensure a sustainable soil quality to produce quality crops for a healthy food production process. Therefore, a proper Fertilizer Supply Chain Management System with appropriate technological procedures that do not lead to fertilizer wastage, scarcity and deviation from standards, should be followed. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture, to take necessary action to provide infrastructure facilities with scientific standards and components based on an automated centralized methodology upon instructions of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka, including the completion of National Fertilizer Secretariat with modern technologies, upgrading existing laboratories and strengthening the district level operating and evaluation system including a field inspection mechanism to be established in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology, to its scope, was approved by the Cabinet .
