National Programme for the Establishment of Export Production Villages
- It has been designed to implement an Export Production Villages Programme enabling to develop rural products within a formal business model and connect them with the export supply chain as well as to upgrading local manufacturing industries to produce import substitutions. This programme aims to mobilize homogeneous producers scattered in a particular area as an Export Production Village Company and provide with them opportunity to produce their productions to the export market and also to address the issues having minimized the challenges to be faced by them. Further, it is expected to establish Export Production Villages covering the sectors of Agriculture, Fisheries, Industry and Services and to enter into future trade agreements with leading export companies thereby ensuring the sustainability of the said Export Production Villages. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Trade, to implement the said proposed programme by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board utilizing the necessary provisions, under the guidance of the Ministry of Trade, was approved in principle, by the Cabinet.
