Development of Wind Farm Projects in Mannar Island

- Construction work of 100 MW Wind Power Plant in Mannar Island is now underway with an investment of US$ 200 million of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The physical progress of the project is 73% and the construction is expected to be completed by early 2021. Of the US$ 200 million obtained for the project, a balance of US$ 47 million remains and it has been found that another 06 wind turbines could be installed using the said balance thereby increasing the power generation capacity of the said Plant by 20 MW. The Asian Development Bank has granted approval in principle for the capacity enhancing proposal and accordingly the proposal made by the Minister of Power to take action accordingly, was approved by the Cabinet.
