Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2020-10-05
Extension of the relief measures granted in support of the Tourism Industry after COVID-19 Pandemic

-In terms of the Cabinet approval granted, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has taken measures to allocate a provision of Rs. 186 million for granting relief to the Tourist Guides and Tourist Drivers registered under the said Authority and have lost their livelihood due to COVID - 19 pandemic and measures have been taken to grant relief for the Tourist Guides and Tourist Drivers from that amount.

The proposal made by the Minister of Tourism, to grant the said relief measures also to the following groups engaged in the tourism sector, was approved by the Cabinet.

* Make a one - off payment of Rs. 15,000 to each of the Tourist Drivers / Tourist Bus Drivers and Assistants / Tuk -Tuk (three wheelers) drivers and Safari vehicle drivers who were trained either under the supervision of the Sri Lanka Tourist Development Authority or any other Tourism Associations and applied for relief as at 2020‑08‑31.

* Make a one - Off payment of Rs. 20,000/- to each Tourist Guide trained by the Provincial Councils and registered under Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
