Obtaining Financial Assistance from the Asian Development Bank for Improving the Quality of Secondary Education in Government Schools

-Approval of the Cabinet has been granted at its meeting held on 2020‑04‑01 to obtain a loan amounting to US $ 400 million from the Asian Development Bank in order to implement Result Based programmes for the Education Sector.

Accordingly, plans have been drawn to invest the said amount of money under the following sectors:

* Extensive reform in the secondary education curriculum and in assessment methodologies.

* Developing a secondary school network fully equipped with facilities at Divisional Secretariat Division level and thereby ensuring the access to high quality secondary education opportunities for all children.

* Increasing the number of National Schools up to 1000.

* Upgrading the National Colleges of Education to the degree awarding status.

* Ensuring the teacher balancing and teacher employment and thereby increasing the student achievement level.

Therefore, the proposal made by the Minister of Education to implement the above mentioned investment programme of US $ 400 million during the period from 2020 - 2025 through the relevant institutions connected to the Education Sector for the purpose of implementing of the Educational reforms adhering to the National Policy Statement 'Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour', was approved by the Cabinet.
