-On 2017‑12‑13, Sri Lanka acceded to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction. In terms of the provisions of the Article 9 of the said Convention, Sri Lanka should draft legislation to implement the provisions of the said convention incorporating appropriate legal, administrative and other measures including the imposition of penal sanctions to prevent and suppress of any such act. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice, to instruct the Legal Draftsman to finalize the drafting process incorporating the observations by the Attorney General with regard to the draft that has been already prepared by the Legal Draftsman, was approved by the Cabinet.
