Census of Population and Housing - 2021

- The Census of Population and Housing of Sri Lanka is conducted once in every 10 years and the Department of Census and Statistics, as authorized by the Census Ordinance, has planned to conduct the next Census in the year 2021. This Census will provide qualitative and timely data and information at Grama Niladhari Division level on population, its geographical distribution, various demographic and social characteristics of the population and housing condition required for national policy formulation and planning. Since the planned activities of the Census of Population and Housing - 2021 have been affected due to the COVID - 19 pandemic which prevailed globally as well as locally, the proposal made by the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Finance to conduct the same as follows, was approved by the Cabinet.

* to conduct the activities of listing stage of the Census from January to May, 2021 which had been scheduled to be commenced in July, 2020

* to conduct the enumeration stage from June to November, 2021

* to carry out the data dissemination stage from November, 2021 to May, 2022

* to conduct the post enumeration survey to establish the accuracy of census data collected at the enumeration stage, in the year 2022.
