Promotion of Biofilm Bio-fertilizer Island wide

- A pilot project on the use of Biofilm Bio-fertilizer has been launched in the year 2018 under the directions of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies. Under the project, the said fertilizer has been introduced for the paddy cultivation in 3500 acres in Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, Ampara and Mahiyanganaya. It has been expanded up to 4000 acres in the year 2019 and based on the successful results achieved through that, the fertilizer has been applied for of 15000 acres during the Yala season 2020 especially in the Kurunegala and Ampara districts. By next year, it is planned to increase the area under cultivation using this fertilizer up to 120,000 acres. Considering the proposal made by the Minister of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation, the Cabinet approval was granted to further expand and implement the program with a suitable mechanism in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture.
