Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2020-07-15
Decade of Skills Development 2021-2030
- It is imperative to obtain the participation of the youth as the active pioneers in the endeavour towards the sustainable development efforts for creating a peaceful and a just society and enhance their knowledge, skills and capabilities. For the purpose, the focus on the next generation youth skills development is given foremost attention in the national development agenda; ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’. Accordingly, the Cabinet concurred for the proposal submitted by H.E. the President for declaring the period from 2021 – 2030 as the ‘ Decade of Skills Development’ of Sri Lanka, expecting to transform the General Education, Higher Education and Professional Education and Vocational Education sectors in order to reduce the population of the unskilled labour to 10% thereby making Sri Lanka the epicentre for human resource development in Asia and with future-fit citizenry who will drive the development agenda of the country.
