Providing relief for the payment of electricity bills of the electricity consumers for the period from March to May 2020

- The income of those employed in various sectors had collapsed since the people of the country had to stay at home for the period from March to May 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Considering this situation, the Minister of Power and Energy has appointed a Committee to submit recommendations including proposals pertaining to the concessions to be granted on the electricity bills. Accordingly, the report submitted by the said Committee was presented to the Cabinet by the Minister of Power and Energy. The Cabinet decided to request the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economy and Policy Development to submit his proposals to the next Cabinet meeting on the concessions that can be granted to the general public after a further study by the Officials of the General Treasury on the recommendations of the said report .
