Extension of the period of the loan pertaining to the Asian Development Bank funded Northern Road Connectivity Project

- Renovation of National Highways and Provincial Roads and newly construction of new selected bridges of the Northern and North Central Provinces are being carried out under the Asian Development Bank funded Northern Road Connectivity Project. For this purpose funds up to US$ 98 million are provided by the Asian Development Bank. Two (02) additional contract packages of the Medavachchiya - Horowpathatna road have been awarded in the month of March 2019 out of the savings of the loan. Although it has been scheduled to complete the construction activities of the said project before the 2020 06 30 which was the loan closing date it has not been possible to complete the same. Therefore, the proposal made by the Minister of Roads and Highways to extend the period of the relevant loan up to 2020 12 31, was approved by the Cabinet.
