Introduction of minimum specifications for buses used for public passenger transportation
- Nearly, 26,985 buses are presently being used by the Sri Lanka Transport Board and the Private Sector for passenger transportation and almost all of them are made on truck chassis meant for transportation of goods. It has been observed that passengers are jolted and made uncomfortable when brakes are applied as those are made for transportation of goods. Therefore, Cabinet approval was granted to appoint a Cabinet Sub Committee comprising of the following Ministers in order to further consider the matters mentioned in the report submitted by the Committee appointed to prepare the technical specifications and criteria in order to enable the passengers to travel in comfort, to be considered when importing buses to the country in the future, with the participation of the relevant officials and to submit its recommendations to the Cabinet.
