Development of the Diyagama International Sports Complex and Sports Academy into a Sports University

- A Sports Academy and an International Stadium is being constructed equipped with all necessary facilities in an extent of 125 acres of land situated at Diyagama in the Homagama Divisional Secretariat Division in the Colombo District. As proposed in the Policy Framework: 'Visas of Prosperity and Splendour', the proposal made by the Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs to take necessary future steps to revise and develop the plans of the said sports complex enabling to establish a National Sports University, was approved by the Cabinet.
Similarly, the proposal made by the said Minister to appoint a Committee of Experts under the Chairmanship of Dr. Chandra Embuldeniya who functioned as the first Vice Chancellor of the Uva Wellassa University to make a study of all matters relating to the process of establishing the proposed Sports University and submit recommendations, was also approved by the Cabinet.
