Food Security for Low Income Earners
- At its meeting held on 2020 01 14, the Cabinet granted approval to the proposal made by H.E. the President to implement a programme called 'The National Programme for eradication of Poverty', to ensure the food security of low income earners by the provision of essential food items. Accordingly, it has been planned to implement the said programme expeditiously as follows and the information provided by the Minister of Internal Trade, Food Security and Consumer Welfare in this respect, was noted by the Cabinet.
* provision of a bag of essential food items to 1,000,000 (one million) beneficiaries including the disabled persons, widows, adults without a permanent source of income and those suffering from chronic diseases. >br> * provision of food items for the current market value of approximately Rs.1,007/- including tea leaves, nadu rice, flovour (normal), dhal and dry fish/sprats/locally canned salmon fish to the selected beneficiaries for a price of Rs.500/- .
* implementation of the programme with the participation of Lanka Sathosa, cooperative trade network and the selected franchised sales outlets in the rural areas.
