Developing and implementing the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) for Sri Lanka to improve the Financial Inclusiveness in the Country
- The concept of 'Inclusive Finance' is about making available the formal financial services timely at an affordable cost to all individuals and enterprises of the economy. The proposed national methodology of financial inclusiveness anticipates to provide opportunities to all citizens of the country to gain access to the financial products and services such as payments, savings, credit, insurance and retirement products.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka with the technical and financial assistance of the International Finance Corporation, has prepared the National Financial Inclusion Strategy and an Action Plan with the contribution of the relevant stakeholders to improve the financial inclusiveness in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economy and Policy Development, to implement the said National Financial Inclusion Strategy in accordance with the Action Plan, was approved by the Cabinet.
