Transformation of the railway track between Kandy and Peradeniya into a double line track

- The double line railway track which is being constructed parallel to the existing railway track between Kandy and Peradeniya is approximately 6.0 km in length and by now, it is under construction from Kandy up to the Gatambe level crossing. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Transport Services Management, to construct an additional line parallel to the existing line from Gatambe level crossing up to Sarasavi Uyana with an upgraded signal system utilizing the provisions of the consolidated fund with a view to reducing the traveling time further more and to construct a bridge at 00 miles 37 chains across the Mahaweli river, was approved by the Cabinet.
