Implementation of the Construction of the Proposed Expressway Network in Sri Lanka

- It has been designed to construct an expressway network so as to cover the entire island as follows:
* Implementation of the construction activities expeditiously in the 04 road sections from, Kadawatha - Mirigama, Mirigama - Kurunegala, Pothuhera - Galagedara and Kurunegala - Dambulla under the Central Expressway Project.
* Implementation of the Ruwanpura Expressway Project under 03 road sections from Kahathuduwa - Ingiriya, Ingiriya - Ratnapura and Ratnapura - Pelmadulla.
* Implementation of the Eastern Expressway Project from Mattala Air Port connecting Pothuvil area via Wellawaya and Siyabalanduwa.
As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Roads and Highways to secure funds for the Central Expressway Project, to obtain a proposal from M/s CNTIC for Section I of the Ruwanpura Expressway Project, to call for Expression of Interest on competitive basis for constructing part II of the said project, to carry out a feasibility study of the Eastern Expressway project and to take action by the Department of External Resources to secure funds required for construction activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
