Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2020-02-19

Rs.320 million (Japanese Yen 200 million) Grant Aid for improvement of the Anti-Narcotic Activities under the Japanese Non Project Grant Aid - 2020

- It has been identified that the increase of prevalence in the drug related activities in Sri Lanka has become an emerging social problem in the country and that in order to control the situation, the necessity of providing modern equipment to detect large scale drug traffickers and the drug users has been recognized. Accordingly, on a request made by the Government of Sri Lanka, the Government of Japan has agreed to provide a grant of Japanese Yen 200 million (Approximately Rs.320 million) for the provision of the necessary equipment to the Sri Lanka Police to investigate and detect anti-narcotic activities. In this context, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economy and Policy Development to sign the Exchange of Notes pertaining to same, was approved by the Cabinet.
