Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2020-02-19

Joint Sri Lanka - China Biotechnology Laboratory of Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) to be established at the Modern Research and Development Complex (MRDC) in Malabe

- In accordance with the approval granted by the Cabinet previously, an agreement has been reached between the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) and Yunnan Rural Science and Technology Centre of China with regard to the establishment of a Joint Biotechnology Laboratory in the Modern Research and Development Centre at Malabe. In order to establish the said Technology Laboratory, the construction work in the ground floor of the Modern Research and Development Centre at Malabe should be completed. It has been proposed to carry out the said activities on cost sharing basis by the two Governments. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation, to award the procurement for the design and service activities of the ground floor of the proposed Biotechnology Laboratory to M/s Prosperous Industrial Company (Pvt.) Ltd. as recommended by the Departmental Procurement Committee and to sign an Agreement between the two parties in that regard, was approved by the Cabinet.
