The National Policy for the conservation and sustainable use of Mangrove Ecosystems in Sri Lanka

- Although the Mangroves Ecosystems play a crucial role in the protection of the coastal zone by maintaining its ecological equilibrium, at present such ecosystems are being under threat due to various human activities. Taking this situation into consideration, the proposal made by the Minister of Environment and Wildlife Resources, to implement the national policy prepared with a view to ensuring the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystems with the participation of all the stakeholders led by the National Expert Committee on Mangrove Conservation and Sustainable use, was approved by the Cabinet.
