Food Production National Programme 2020 - 2022
- Although the 'Food Production National Programme' was implemented during the period from 2016-2018 with the objective of ensuring food security, it has not been possible to achieve the targets envisaged due to the non availability of sufficient provision and the unexpected climatic conditions. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Mahaweli, Agriculture, Irrigation and Rural Development to implement the projects such as, increasing of crop production and productivity, minimizing of post harvest losses, introduction of value added new products, research and development, minimizing of damages to crops by wild animals, increasing of the production of seeds and planting material through farm development, promotion of environment friendly agriculture through the application of traditional knowledge and practices, promotion of agro tourism and the establishment of 'Saubhagya' Agro Production Cluster Villages, during the period from 2020-2022 at provincial and divisional level, was approved by the Cabinet.
