Drinking Water Quality Testing and Monitoring Programme
- The present pipe borne water supply coverage estimated to be around 51% of which 11% is covered by the water supply schemes managed by community based organizations, protected dug wells, tube wells and a programme has been initiated by the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities for water quality testing of such water. The main stakeholders of this programme are the National Water Supply & Drainage Board, the Department of National Community Water Supply, the Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project and the China Sri Lanka Research Grant Project.
Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities to initiate the Programme of Water Quality Testing and Monitoring of the water supply schemes managed by the community based organizations, protected dug wells and tube wells from seven districts covered by the World Bank Funded Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project and subsequently, to extend it to the other districts as well, was approved by the Cabinet.
