Updating of the National Physical Plan of Sri Lanka

- In accordance with the new approach in the National Spatial System proposed in the policy declaration 'Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour', it has become necessary to update the National Physical Plan in order to integrate the proposed policy elements.
Accordingly, the key objectives of the process are to provide a broader national level framework to all the development agencies to guide the planning and execution of development activities, which will directly impact upon the physical environment of the country and to establish facilities, amenities and service related infrastructure incidental upon the development of the physical environment and to devise a plan for a physical environment that will facilitate Sri Lanka to become a smart nation and a competitive economy of the world by 2030, and to remain so thereafter.
Taking these matters into consideration, the presentation made by the Minister of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities to the effect that the necessary measures are being taken by the Department of National Physical Planning to update the National Physical Plan of Sri Lanka, was noted by the Cabinet.
