Pivithurulanka National Environmental Management Programme

- It has been identified that it is imperative to develop a specific programme to enhance public awareness on the responsibility of environmental management and thereby to increase the public participation on the same and also to obtain the active participation of the other relevant stakeholders including the local government institutions. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Environment and Wildlife Resources for the expeditious implementation of a programme in the name of the 'Pivithurulanka National Environmental Management Programme' to carry out the programmes and actions for the entire environmental management continuously in the whole country, inclusive of the establishment of centres for sorting out the waste, providing incinerators to selected local authorities, providing the necessary facilities for enhancing the compost yards and setting up of new compost yards and implementation of programmes for making the public aware of environmental conservation, was approved by the Cabinet.
