Procurement of Service Providers for Developing and Operating the Railway coaches for tourism purposes on lease basis

- The approval of the Cabinet has been granted previously, to award contracts for developing and operating the Railway coaches for tourism purposes on lease basis. Accordingly, although the luxury railway compartment service is in operation in the Kandy line at present, the said service is not available in the Badulla, Northern, Eastern and Southern lines. As such, taking into consideration the passenger requirements and present day demand, the proposal made by the Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation, to call for bids to select contractors on competitive basis to operate luxury compartments for a 5 year period in the said lines where the luxury compartments services are not being operated, was approved by the Cabinet.
