Declaration of Moragahakanda - Kaluganga, Mahaweli System 'F' as a Toxic Free Organic Agricultural Produce Sustainable Development Zone

- A new Mahaweli system known as System 'F' has been established having settled the affected people due to the Moragahakanda - Kaluganga Development Project in the Laggala Pallegama area and it has also become a village set up under the Blue Green concept. The water needs of these settlers in the area, for drinking purposes and agriculture are provided with the water flowing from the Nuckles catchment mountain range which is devoid of any human settlement and nourishes Kaluganga reservoir with fresh water and has also been identified as a suitable are a for development of agriculture, using only organic manure and clean water. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to declare' Moragahakanda Kaluganga Left and Right bank settlement areas known as System 'F as a Sustainable Development Zone exclusively for organic toxic free Agriculture Production and the upper catchment areas of Kaluganga and Ambanganga as Contamination Free Watershed Zones and an area of using organic fertilizer for agriculture, was approved by the Cabinet.
