National Policy on Sustainable Consumption and Production

- The objective of sustainable consumption and production is to promote economic development and social welfare while protecting the environment by managing natural resources sustainably and increasing the quantity of production by reducing resource use. Having observed the adverse impacts of unsustainable development, the Government of Sri Lanka has endorsed a number of conventions in regard to sustainable consumption and production, by joining hands with the International Community. Accordingly, the National Policy on Sustainable Consumption and Production prepared for the achievement of the objectives of sustainable consumption and production and presented by the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, was approved by the Cabinet.
