Establishment of a Public Debt Management Bureau

- A large number of issues has arisen pertaining to the debt management in Sri Lanka and it has been found necessary to have a single institution for this purpose. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Finance to obtain the approval, in principle, to establish an Institution for debt management named as the Public Debt Management Bureau under the purview of the Ministry of Finance, to establish a five member Committee on Public Debt Management under the chairmanship of the Secretary to the Treasury with a view to drafting a Public Debt Management Bill and developing the institutional framework to establish the proposed Bureau and to seek the required provisions for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
