Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2019-10-15

Transfer of the Company of Mahaweli Consultancy Bureau (Pvt.) Ltd. established as an affiliated company in accordance with section 13 (18) of the Mahaweli Authority Act to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Irrigation and Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development

- The Mahaweli Consultancy Bureau (Pvt.) Ltd. incorporated under the Companies Act, after the restructuring of the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka in 1998, functions with the objective of providing consultancy services to the local and international projects for the irrigation sector and other Government institutions and the preparation of project reports of the other Government institutions. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment and the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Irrigation and Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development to transfer this company which was in the process of liquidation as per the opinion of the Attorney General, to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Irrigation and Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development with immediate effect, for providing consultancy services to the institutions coming under the purview of the said Ministry and also enabling it to provide consultancy services pertaining to the small scale engineering constructions of the rural industrial sector productively, along with all its existing financial and physical assets, liabilities, staff and ongoing consultancy services agreed upon along with all its activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
