Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre

- Under the Government Policy of developing Sri Lanka as a Maritime Hub, it is due to establish a Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre with the objective of providing a more efficient, search and rescue service to ensure the security of the crafts engaged in naval and fishing activities and face perils within the maritime zone to be implemented with the Sri Lanka Navy as the key partner and the Coast Guard Department of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Air-force and the Merchant Shipping Secretariat as other partners. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Defence, to carry out the said project in accordance with the recommendation of the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), with the grant of US$ 6 million agreed upon by the Government of India through the Bharat Electronic Limited (BEL) India, was approved by the Cabinet.
