Updating the regulations made for the preservation of artifacts in Sri Lanka to bestow to our posterity

- The Antiquities Ordinance No.9 of 1940 has been enacted with the objective of better preservation of the artifacts and the archaeological sites and monuments which hold historical and archaeological significance in Sri Lanka. In terms of the provisions provided for in section 47 of the said Ordinance, the regulations published in the Gazette Notification No.8698 of 23rd December 1940 have to be updated to suit the present trends. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs to amend the regulations made under section 47 of the Antiquities Ordinance No.9 of 1940 and implement the amendments after presenting them in Parliament for approval and subsequently, to publish in the Government Gazette, was approved by the Cabinet.
