Declaration of the 'Information Month' to coincide with the International Right to Know Day
- The Right to Information Act No.12 of 2016 which was passed in Parliament of Sri Lanka on the 4th of August 2016, has now been ranked as the fourth best Act in the world and the Ministry of Mass Media which has been entrusted with the prime responsibility of implementing the said Act, is taking appropriate measures to effectively implement the same. Therefore, the proposal made by H.E the President as per the request of the Non-Cabinet Minister of Mass media to declare the period from 15th of September 2019 to 15th of October 2019 as the 'Information Month' to coincide with the 'International Right to Know Day' which falls on 28th of September 2019, to issue a Circular to instruct all the State Institutions to engage in activities related to this Act, to organize awareness programmes for citizens so as to cover all the divisional secretariat divisions of the country to coincide with this event, to implement RTI mobile services under the theme of 'Right to Information to the Village' in 05 selected districts, was approved by the Cabinet.
