Amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No.15 of 1979

- The Draft (Amendment) Bill to the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No.15 of 1979 has been published in the Gazette of 14th June 2019. Subsequently, the Sectoral Oversight Committee which had met to consider the draft Bill has proposed several amendments and the Legal Draftsman has drafted these amendments as Committee Stage Amendments. In view of the decision given by the Cabinet previously, the Committee Stage Amendments which affect the core of a Bill should be submitted to the Cabinet for approval prior to tabling the same in Parliament. Accordingly, the said Committee Stage Amendments and the draft Bill published in the Gazette of 14th June 2019 submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister of Justice & Prison Reforms, was approved by the Cabinet.
