Establishment of the 'National Council for Road Safety' in the name of the 'Commission for National Transport Safety

- The need for the National Council for Road Safety established by the Motor Traffic (Amendment) Act, No.5 of 1998 as a 'Council' comprising of 17 member institutes, to be established as a powerful and legal entity has been identified. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation to establish the National Council for Road Safety by the name of the 'Commission for National Transport Safety', as a powerful institute within a formal legal framework and to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft appropriate legislation to establish the said Commission, was approved by the Cabinet.
