Implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 in Sri Lanka
- According to the Resolution 1540 of the United Nations Security Council, all member states should refrain from providing any form of support to non-state actors that attempt to acquire, to keep the weapons in their possession and to provide, transport and the use of such devices. As such, since it is a timely need to enact appropriate laws and regulations pertaining to the exportation and re exportation, transition, transshipment and also traveling and transit of the persons engaged in activities related to proliferation and Weapons of Mass Destruction from or via this country and also to adapt to such requirements, the proposal made by the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade to use the European Union Military List and the European Union Dual-Use Control List and make changes as appropriate to Sri Lanka and to prepare a National Control List within one year and also to draft amending legislation to change the Acts and Laws in terms of the provisions of the Gazette (Extraordinary) Notification No.2039/31 of 6th October, 2017, for the implementation of Resolution 1540, was approved by the Cabinet.
