Amendment of the Grade 5 selection process of Scholarship holders in order to increase the facilities of Secondary Education to a grater number of Students of the Low-income Families
- At present, 15,000 students of the low-income families who become eligible at the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination are awarded scholarships amounting to Rs.625/- million annually. Accordingly, the Note to the Cabinet presented by the Minister of Education to inform the Cabinet that action will be taken to implement the proposals of increasing the aforesaid number of students up to 20,000 from the year 2019 onwards, the increasing of the monthly bursary from Rs.500/- up to Rs.750/-, for them, to revise the monthly income limit of the families of the students being eligible for scholarship bursaries as Rs.15,000/- from the year 2019 and the allocation of scholarships bursaries to children with special needs as recommended by the Department of Examination, so as not to exceed the total number of students receiving bursaries of 20,000, was noted by the Cabinet.
