Increase of Fines for the Offences of the Penal Code

- Due to the vast increase in the incidence of criminal activities in the country, it is a timely need, to resort to stringent measures to counter them. As such, a Committee has been appointed to study and make recommendations as the fines imposed pertaining to the violation of provisions containing in certain Acts and Ordinances are not at all adequate to prevent such violations. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice & Prison Reforms to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft legislation in accordance with recommendations of the said Committee to increase the fines for offences of the penal code, was approved by the Cabinet.
