Payment of compensation to the landowners who were affected due to the acquisition of lands to the Moragahakanda Project which were provided to them in lieu of the lands inundated by the Wemedilla Reservoir

- The land area that includes the alternative lands provided for the people who had lost their properties due to the acquisition of lands for the Wemedilla Reservoir carried out within the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Naula, Galewela and Dambulla, in the year 2008 under the Kandepitawala Project, has been subsequently, acquired by the Government for the activities of the Moragahakanda, Kaluganga Development Project. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to pay compensation to the remaining 4 landowners of Rs.16 lakhs each, who have been affected due to depriving of their properties and not received the payment of compensation as an alternative to the loss of their properties, as revealed subsequently, was approved by the Cabinet.
