Construction of new buildings for the branches of the National Transport Medical Institute
- The functions of the National Transport Medical Institute functioning as an Independent Body under the Ministry of Transport & Civil Aviation have been further widened as a result of the renewal of the Driving Licenses of Light Vehicles, obtained from 2009 being commenced from March 2017. As such, 25 branches have been opened Island Wide to provide a more efficient and a productive service and a large number of clients visit the Gampaha, Werahera, Kurunegala, Kandy and Anuradhapura branches daily. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation, to construct pre-fabricated buildings for the Werahera, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura branches and permanent buildings for the Gampaha and Kandy branches adopting the formal procurement procedures and utilizing the funds of the National Transport Medical Institute, was approved by the Cabinet.
