Introduction of a System for Licensing of Electrical Technology Workers

- The Joint proposal made by the Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs; the Minister of Finance; and the Minister of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs, to implement a Licensing Framework for electrical technology workers with effect from August 2019 to provide a safe service for electricity consumers by establishing a proper standard of electrical installations and also with a view to increasing the demand for qualified electrical technology workers for formal recognition as professionals to create more employment opportunities for them, and to authorize the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka and the Construction Industry Development Authority for the implementation of the said licensing system and to appoint the 'Electrician Licensing Enforcement and Review Panel' comprising of the representatives of the relevant institutions to oversee the process, was approved by the Cabinet.
